About

My quest - as I currently understand it - is shamanic in character. That of reaching uncommon modes of thought to make connections others wouldn't, which can be helpful in times of uncertainty. I have a tendency to think a lot, so I try to compensate by creating either art or code. (Projects) My background is in computer science, artificial intelligence, and complex networks. Right now I'm interested in tools for thought, and in the impacts of self-interested recommendation systems on the self-organization of systems of agents - namely societies. However, I've always had wide interests and consider myself a bit of a generalist.

Most of my epistemology is derived from the history and philosophy of mathematics, coming up through theory computation, artificial intelligence, and finally the subjective study of consciousness. I've been influenced by the following, in one way or another. Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, David Hume, Albert Camus, Friedrich Nietzsche, Bertrand Russel, Kurt Gödel, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Alan Turing, Claude Shannon, Stephen Wolfram, Nassim Taleb, Joscha Bach, John Vervaeke, David Chapman, Carl Jung, Aldous Huxley, Terrence McKenna, Douglas Hofstadter, Elinor Ostrom, David Foster Wallace, and the Vlogbrothers. Blogs like Ribbonfarm , Slate Star Codex , Less Wrong , Gwern . As a result, my vocabulary ends up a melting pot of terms from computer science, philosophy, and esoteric traditions.

Short-term, I'm trying to become self-employed, to have an impact at a local scale by doing some organizing and some farming, and to live sovereign and sustainable.
